Liverpool extended their excellent start to the new season as they took rivals Manchester United apart in claiming a 3-0 win at Old Tafford.

Two first-half goals from Luis Diaz saw the Reds deservedly put themselves in a commanding position, and they built on their advantage in the second through Mohamed Salah.

Victory ensured Arne Slot’s men moved second in the Premier League just behind Manchester City on goal difference.

It also saw them exorcise the demons of a three-match winless run against their old rivals last term.

Check out the key talking points from the game below.

Slot shows Klopp contrast

By his own admission, Slot is not one for fist-pumps or shows of passion on the touchline, but there other ways to ingratiate yourself to fans.

And, when it comes to Liverpool, the most effective one is surely to thump Manchester United in their own backyard.

In doing that today, Slot has not only boosted his reputation among supporters, but also showed them why he might be different to Jurgen Klopp in a good way.

At times last season, it felt like the German’s team were, much like him, slightly overly emotional coming into these games, and did not win them as a result.

Here, however, Slot oversaw a cool, collected and ruthless performance somewhat reflective of his own personality.

Should that continue, then Liverpool can hope to be better than they have been in recent years during the biggest of fixtures.
