Important victory for Slot
Until a new manager wins in different ways, the nagging doubt that they might be incapable of doing so will always exist among supporters.
And so for Arne Slot, this evening’s match provided much-needed evidence that he can both do it in the Champions League, and when his team has conceded the first goal.
Despite having made a shaky start punctuated by Pulisic’s opener, the Reds went on to utterly dominate proceedings.
Strong in defence and threatening going forward, they racked up 23 shots, 2.77 xG and conceded just eight and 0.54 respectively
It was the sort of result and performance that will bolster the supporters’ faith in Slot, and boost a collective confidence that had no doubt been knocked by defeat to Nottingham Forest.
With all that considered, we could well end up looking back at this as important night in Slot’s Liverpool career.
