Revealed: How Arne Slot won the Premier League
The Dutchman's calm authority and a return to a collaborative approach have been key to a title win few saw coming last summer.
There came a moment during last summer’s pre-season tour of the United States when the Liverpool squad collectively discovered that their new head coach, Arne Slot, meant business.
This realisation arrived as they took part in a group review of training footage, a task that would soon come to be recognised as a cornerstone of the new regime’s approach.
Having largely kept his counsel in his first days on the job, Slot took the brave decision to single out a player who he had been enthusiastically praising while out on the pitch.
Showing a clip to back up his point, the Dutchman asked whether his compliments had led to said player failing to run with the required intensity during a later drill, before firmly reminding everyone present of their responsibility to give 100% at all times.
If there was any sense that the new man might be overawed by the dressing room he had inherited, or a little less strict around standards than Jurgen Klopp, then it was extinguished that day.
