Arne Slot is set to ring the changes when Liverpool travel to Southampton for a Carabao Cup quarter-final on Wednesday.

With the Dutchman prioritising a push for Premier League and Champions League glory this season, several key men will be given a well-earned rest instead of taking to the pitch on the south coast.

Of course, the depth of Slot's squad means he will still be able to name plenty of big-hitters in his starting XI, with the likes of Diogo Jota, Federico Chiesa and Alexis Mac Allister in line for starts aimed at sharpening them up.

But the Reds boss is also expected to lean heavily on academy players to fill a number of gaps in his team.

Here, we take a look at some of the youngsters who are expected to benefit.

The young striker already has history with Southampton, having scored a brace against them in an FA Cup tie at Anfield back in February.

Danns had been wanted on loan by Plymouth Argyle prior to that setback, and it remains to be seen if he will be allowed to leave in January.

But the 18-year-old could ensure any decision on his future is delayed by putting the Saints to the sword again and giving Liverpool yet more League Cup games to consider in the weeks ahead.
