Virgil van Dijk wants a new deal - Liverpool should give him one

Liverpool's captain will report for pre-season next month with his future at the club still up in the air.

As Virgil van Dijk enjoys a well-earned break following a long season for club and country, speculation over his future continues to rage.

And the Dutchman is not entirely blameless for that fact having offered up a rather enigmatic reply to a question on the matter earlier this month.

Speaking after the Netherlands’ exit from the European Championship, Van Dijk said of his plans: “I will think carefully this summer about what I want at club level and as an international player.”

It is a response that has left many feeling that a Liverpool-related bombshell may well be on the way - and, in truth, this notion isn’t entirely without merit.
