What will happen with Luis Diaz this summer?
Certainty around the Colombian's future is in short supply amid interest from Saudi Arabia and Europe.
There was a notable split among the Liverpool fanbase around the news that broke this week regarding Luis Diaz’s uncertain future.
To some, the rejection of a Barcelona approach for the Colombian was a clear indication that there are no plans to sell him this summer despite the constant rumours.
For others, the Reds setting out their financial expectations for a proposed transfer meant that this developing story can only end in the player leaving.
But the fact is, both parties are wrong; no such certainty can ever exist within the transfer market.
Instead, this, like every other move, is a complex situation in which nothing can progress unless all three parties (player, selling club, and buying club) are happy.
And it is currently impossible to guarantee that will happen when it comes to a potential Anfield exit for Diaz this summer.
From Liverpool’s perspective, the winger is not part of the select group of players - Mohamed Salah, for example - who would not be allowed to go at any price.
As such, there is always going to be a figure at which they can be tempted into doing business, as was the case last summer amid interest from Barcelona and Manchester City.
The conditions for a move are also added to by the fact the Reds are in no rush to hand out a new contract to a 28-year-old who, while important to Arne Slot, is not in the aforementioned untouchable bracket.
