Why did Liverpool sign Jeremie Frimpong?
The Reds have triggered a €35m release clause in the Dutchman's contract to make him the first signing of what is set to be a busy summer.
It is tempting to suggest that there is a symmetry to Trent Alexander-Arnold’s move to Real Madrid being confirmed on the same day Jeremie Frimpong joins Liverpool.
But senior sources at the club are keen to reject any suggestion that the Dutchman is arriving as a direct replacement for their former vice-captain.
Instead, they emphasise that Arne Slot already has a wealth of options available to him at right-back, with highly-rated academy graduate Conor Bradley chief among them.
And so, in theory, Frimpong is arriving to do so much more than simply step into the shoes of the departing Alexander-Arnold.
It is understood that Arne Slot plans to make use of the versatility the 25-year-old has evidenced througout his career thus far by using him in various positions up and down the right flank.
