It will come as no surprise to Liverpool fans that Sunday’s defeat in the Community Shield has had zero effect on plans for the remainder of the transfer window.

But even so, the club’s recruitment staff still have plenty of loose ends to tie up before the deadline arrives in three weeks’ time.

So what business should be expected before September 1? Here’s a look at the key decisions to make.

Federico Chiesa

A return to Italy has long been touted as the likeliest outcome for Federico Chiesa this summer after a disappointing debut season at Anfield.

That remains the case, though the chances of the Reds securing a permanent deal feel as if they are shrinking the closer the deadline gets.

Atalanta are thought to be interested and, should they move on Ademola Lookman, then perhaps they will be armed with sufficient funds to cut a deal for Chiesa.

If not, then the 27-year-old will seek a late loan move as he has no place in Arne Slot’s plans for the upcoming campaign.

Harvey Elliott

Another player to have accepted his fate is Harvey Elliott, whose potential minutes in midfield and on the right wing have been further limited by the arrivals of Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong.

RB Leipzig are the current favourites, though they need to offload Xavi Simons first to secure funding and open up a spot in the team.

Should that move fall through, then it could bring Premier League clubs back to the table, with Tottenham and West Ham among those to have expressed an interest.

Kostas Tsimikas

Liverpool were always going to need to offload a left-back this summer following the arrival of Milos Kerkez.

And, although Andy Robertson briefly flirted with the idea of a move to Atletico Madrid, Kostas Tsimikas always looked the likeliest candidate.

Nottingham Forest were keen earlier in the window, while Leeds United have also been credited with an interest.

Liverpool will only consider permanent offers for the Greek, though they are expected to materialise.

Ben Doak

As exclusively revealed by this reporter last week, Ben Doak was the subject of failed £20m offers from both Crystal Palace and Ipswich during the January transfer window.

However, any bid of a similar value is more likely to be successful this time around, with both club and player keen on a permanent solution.

West Ham and Wolves have recently been joined in the race for the Scot’s signature by Leeds United.

Alexander Isak

Make no mistake, Alexander Isak remains Liverpool’s top striker target following Darwin Nunez’s departure.

But the Reds won’t make a further bid without encouragement from Newcastle after seeing a £110m offer emphatically turned down earlier in the window.

Fortunately, that green light looks more likely to arrive with each passing day of the transfer window, despite some reporting to the contrary from the North East.
